Humans hate leaving things unfinished. It’s called the Zeigarnik Effect.

We have an innate drive to complete tasks that are "almost done."

You can weaponize this psychology in your slide-out cart to increase Average Order Value (AOV).

The "Free Shipping" Progress Bar

If your Free Shipping threshold is $75, and a customer has $50 in their cart, do not just show the total.

Show a visual progress bar that is 66% full.
Copy: "You are $25 away from Free Shipping!"

Why this works:

  1. Visual Feedback: They see the gap.

  2. Goal Orientation: Getting free shipping feels like "winning" the game against the shipping company.

  3. Justification: "I might as well buy the socks to save the $8 shipping."

Level 2: The "Gift" Unlock

Once they hit Free Shipping, don't stop. Add a second tier.
"You've unlocked Free Shipping! Spend $20 more to unlock a Mystery Gift."

This creates a "double loop" of value. We’ve seen brands push AOV up by 18% just by adding a dynamic progress bar to the cart drawer.

Your Homework: Check your cart drawer. Is it static? Install an app like "UpCart" or "Rebuy" to add a dynamic progress bar. Set the threshold $15 higher than your current Average Order Value.
