Here is a secret: Site Search users convert 3x-5x higher than standard browsers.
If someone takes the time to type "red hoodie" into your search bar, they have their wallet out. They know exactly what they want.
But what happens if you don’t have a red hoodie?
On 90% of DTC sites, they get a "Zero Results" page:
"Sorry, no results found for 'red hoodie'."
This is a dead end. The customer leaves. You lost a high-intent buyer because of a technicality.

The "Never Dead End" Framework
You must turn your "No Results" page into a sales page.
1. The "Did You Mean?" Correction
Use an app (like Searchanise or Klevu) that handles typos. If they type "red hoddie," it should auto-correct to "red hoodie."
2. The "Best Seller" Pivot
If you truly don’t have the item, don’t just say "Sorry."
Say: "We couldn't find that, but here is what everyone else is buying right now."
Then, display a grid of your top 3 best-selling SKUs.
3. The Category Redirect
If they search for "Shoes" and you have a "Footwear" category, set up a redirect so they land directly on the collection page, not a search results page.
Your Homework: Go to your site. Search for a nonsense word like "blorp." Look at the results page. If it’s a blank page with just "Sorry," you have work to do. Add a "Best Sellers" widget to that template immediately.
